My interest in therapeutic nutrition began about the time of my mother’s death at the relatively young age of 70. She had suffered from heart disease, strokes, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes, all while abiding by the nutritional advice of her doctors. That advice included eating a very low-fat diet: margarine, skim milk, lots of “healthy whole grains,” vegetable oils, and other various processed “diet” foods of the 80’s & 90’s. I remember my mother preparing to take her cocktail of pharmaceuticals before each meal. Her breakfast table was covered with pill bottles, each having its own potential side effects. As I watched seemingly helpless, I realized that this could easily be my destiny.
In June of 2013, I retired from a 34-year career in education and immediately started my nutritional education at Bauman College. I graduated, with honors, with my Certificate in Holistic Nutritional Consulting in June of 2015. During my 2 years at Bauman, I had to opportunity to work with several nutrition clients, some for their general wellness and others with specific health conditions. I’ve also taught nutrition classes in a corporate setting during my practicum at Bauman College. My education continues each day with new and exciting findings throughout the world of 21st century nutrition and wellness.
