Hi! My name is Doug Albert and I’m a Certified Nutritional Consultant. Thanks for reading my first-ever blog. Although I’m a rookie to blogging, I did write program notes for a professional orchestra for more than 10 years. Some folks even said that my program notes were slightly entertaining. (no, not a relative) I’ll do my best to keep my blog readers even more riveted with each nutrition topic. After all, the world of eating and doing it intentionally is a fascinating topic.
Let’s start with how and why I came to be a nutritional consultant. I taught music in public schools for 34 years in Lancaster County PA. I retired from teaching in June of 2013 and started my formal nutrition education in October of the same year at Bauman College. I say “formal” because I’ve been an “amateur” student of nutrition for at least 15 years now.
I’ve been searching for answers to the best ways to eat ever since my mother passed away in August of 2000. She had followed all of the traditional advice of her doctors and the standard American dietary guidelines of the 1980’s & 90’s. Despite her best efforts, she experienced heart attacks, strokes, and became diabetic. She never felt well and was always on a diet of low-fat, high carb foods. As a Sherlock Holmes fan, you should know that I went on a serious investigative hunt to find the truths about what our bodies truly need for optimal fuel. My initial search involved 100’s of podcasts, dozens of books, internet googling, and much more.
Bottom line, I have a lot of information to share with my clients and blog readers on this subject. I plan to write on a different nutrition and wellness topic each week. In week 2, I’ll post my nutritional philosophy, based on the latest science and research. In upcoming blog posts, I’ll write on topics like: “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Fats,” “Carbs: Friends or Foes,” “What’s the Skinny on Dairy,” and many more!
We all need to eat so why not be informed about the things going into your mouth? After all, those foods are helping to determine your health and wellness. My goal is to help you feel great, look vibrant, and be the best you possible.
